We're officially more than halfway through season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, but the series' creator and showrunner Jenny Han still has a few surprises in store for her viewers. And this past week, one of the biggest OMG moments occurred almost immediately with Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) stepping into a new role during episode 5, "Love Fool:" the show's narrator.

In a recent interview, Jenny herself opened up to Entertainment Weekly and revealed she had always planned on having Jeremiah take over as narrator for Belly during an episode this season because it's something she also explored while writing the books. "It actually comes honestly from the books because the second book, It's Not Summer Without You, is told halfway from Jeremiah's perspective," Jenny recalled. "So I always knew that I wanted to do an episode from his point of view."

On what the experience was like being the episode's narrator, Gavin gushed, "Man, it was a blast."

"What's so cool about Belly and Lola's performance is the inner monologue and everything that's in her head is on paper, since it helps with our jobs of how to get to those places. To be able to see what was intended behind Jeremiah's actions and mind and reactions and emotions was really cool because that's not a very common occurrence. I feel like we'll probably never have another job in our lives that is going to be similar to that, where it basically tells us what we're thinking," he added.

The actor also said it was a "good opportunity and a learning experience" to be able to contribute to the episode in a different way than he did normally. But as for actually recording the narration IRL? "That was a different story," he confessed before adding, "It was an interesting experience. As I'm saying things and seeing things, I can remember what I was saying in my head with what was written on the paper. It was fun translating, basically, dialogue through my eyes with my voice from a studio booth hundreds of miles away. It was really weird."

I think I speak on behalf of all the fans of the show when I say thank you Gavin for your service this week because the episode was truly *chef's kiss*. And without spoiling too much just in case you haven't tuned in, Gavin's narration comes at a great time for Bellyjere stans since it seems like Belly and Jeremiah might just rekindle their romantic feelings for each other. 👀

"I feel like it's a seed of something new," Gavin said. "I don't think that we've fully seen them commit in that way to each other. Just being vulnerable and sharing that with each other, I think it led to a lot of growth and a lot of really interesting plot changes."

This is truly The Summer I Turned Impatient™️, because I need the last few episodes to drop like yesterday. 😭
